This press release was taken from the Bromley Council website

Penge businesses have voted for YES in the Business Improvement District ballot.

The Penge SE20 BID success follows the outcome of the 4 week ballot which saw a majority of businesses voting for the BID proposal. The total number of votes cast was 80, representing a turnout of 32%.  In total, 87% voted in favour, representing 90% of the rateable value of votes cast.

Mark Painter, of Property World and the Chair of the Penge SE20 BID Steering Group said, “We now need to grab this opportunity and make sure that Penge benefits in the way that we know it can.  This result gives us greater opportunities and already, this proposal has brought us closer together, which can only be a good thing for the future, as we look to promote Penge and all that it has to offer.”

“We are absolutely delighted for the Penge SE20 BID team, which gives an opportunity for the Penge business community to take a more active role in their management of their town.  The additional investment this proposal will create will bring a greater cohesiveness to Penge and spur further success for businesses and we look forward to continuing to work with businesses and the local community to improve Penge for the benefit of everyone” said Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal and Recreation.

The Penge SE20 BID proposal included improved CCTV coverage, a group purchasing scheme designed to save traders money on bills, a free a point of use fly-tipping removal service for local businesses and street rangers to improve local security.

BIDs are both run and funded by local businesses. The Penge SE20 BID Team includes members representing local traders such as Designer Drapes, Fosdicks Newsagents, Kirvan Bond Solicitors, Goldstores, Property World and Solitaire Jewellers.

Penge will now join the likes of Bromley and Orpington town centres who have both benefitted from having successful BIDs and with the neighbouring Beckenham BID ballot also indicating approval for a BID, more businesses than ever will have the opportunity to get involved in helping to improve their local town centre.
